Happy Turkey Day!

It’s no wonder why so many people find the holiday season to be their favorite time of year. What’s not to enjoy about days filled with feasting, gifts and reunions with family and loved ones? With all the merrymaking going on, its hard not to think of those that are less fortunate than ourselves.

For many, the old proverb that “It is better to give than to receive” holds true all year round. All across Move For Hunger's network, the true spirit of the holiday season is already in full gear. In the past 2 months alone, we have teamed up with local businesses, schools and individauls to organize over 60 food drives and hunger awareness events across the United States and Canada.

Individuals and organizations of all shapes and sizes have reached out to join our fight against hunger resulting in 207 events so far in 2013 (surpassing last year’s total of 173 with our busiest months yet to go!). That means thousands more life saving meals for struggling families in need. We are just 43 drives short of our yearly goal of 250 food drives!

One Of Our Favorites

People of all ages have taken action this fall to fight hunger in their communities.  In October we received a call from Manam Nagi of Virginia.  She was getting ready to celebrate her son's first birthday and wanted to turn his birthday party into a giant food drive. Apparently you're never too young to do good in the world :)   Gio's First Food Drive was a HUGE success, and collected over 880 lbs. for their local food bank. Our local moving partner donated boxes and transporation to assist in the drive.  Thanks to selfless actions of Gio's mother and the little guy's friends, more than 700 people will receive a wholesome meal this holiday season.
We are also very happy to report that we've officially delivered over 2,230,000 lbs. of food to food banks and pantries across N. America.  This provides over 1,858,333 meals to individuals in need.

Want to help the hungry in your community this Holiday season? We’ve got easy ways for you to lend a hand. Visit our Get Involved page to start planning your own drive that will bring in lifesaving meals for people in need. With nearly 600 moving companies across the United States and Canada involved with Move For Hunger, chances are we’ll have a dedicated partner in your area to help out with transportation for the food drive. Or you can hold a fundraiser or awareness event if a food drive isn't your thing.
And if that’s not easy enough for you, swing by our store to purchase a Move For Hunger T-Shirt or Hooded Sweatshirt. Not only will you be looking great in your fresh outfit, but also all proceeds from the shirt sales support our fight against hunger! How great is that?
Wishing you all a Happy Turkey Day!
