Project Report | Feb 20, 2014
New year, New goals

By Kristy Redford | Development Director

2013 Year In Review
2013 Year In Review

As I write this, another snowstorm is barreling down on the East Coast. It's easy on days like this to lose prospective -social media is again filled with grumblings of the harsh winter, delayed openings, and slushy drives to work. But as I sit in the warmth of the office, I look down at my hot cup of tea in hand, the breakfast sandwich in front of me, lunch for today tucked away in the refrigerator and I know just how great these fortunes are. My mind goes to the 50 million Americans struggling to find their next meal and the 17 million American children that go to bed hungry every night, and know that too many families tonight will make a choice between heat or a meal for the table. Food insecurity is a year-round issue affecting millions of families and individuals across the country. That is why the entire Move For Hunger team and network continue to raise the bar in the fight against hunger.

Looking Ahead

When we founded Move For Hunger 4 years ago, we set some bold, audacious goals. One of them was to reach a point where we were collecting 1,000,000 lbs of food every single year. Fast forward to 2013. Thanks to the tireless support of our partners, movers, realtors, volunteers and generous donors, I am proud to report that in 2013 Move For Hunger delivered more than 1.3 MILLION POUNDS of food to food banks and pantries across North America.

I'd like to share with you a few highlights from last year and our goals for 2014.  In 2013, an overwhelming number of you visited our website and let us know you were ready to Get Involved. Together we organized over 300 events - feeding hundreds of thousands of people.  In 2014, we have set a goal to organize 400 food drives.  Please continue to spread the word about getting involved and making an impact in your community. Be a part of the solution.

Together we continue to make giving back the standard for the relocation industry. In 2013, our network grew to work with over 560 moving companies and 5,000 real estate professionals across the US and Canada. Their efforts have moblized hundreds of communities to take action in our fight against hunger each and every day. In 2014, we look to add another 280 moving companies to commit to the cause.  Know someone that is moving?  Spread the word to use a mover that is giving back.

Last year Move For Hunger was thrilled to be recognized and honored for our work.  For all of you that contributed with support for Move For Hunger - we share in these moments together with you. We are proud and humbled to say that Adam Lowy, Move For Hungers founder and Executive Director, has been named to the prestigious list by Forbes Magazine of the 30 people under 30 that are making waves in their respective industries..

We are proud of all we have accomplished in 2013. But we know there is still so much to do in 2014.  This year will be a year of growth. A year of collaboration. A year of fun, and creativity, and doing!  Please join us this year. Make a donation. Advocate. Get involved!  You can make a difference in your community. How will you help us change the statistics?
