Help Fund a Children's Burn Unit in Uganda

Thank you so much for your continued support of the Help Fund a Children’s Burns Unit project at Whispers.Because of your generosity, we have been able to save the lives of children who arrive at our hospital with severe burn injuries and provide them with consistent, compassionate care.

Your support has enabled us to purchase essential burns unit supplies such as antibiotics, vaseline gauze, bandages, and other dressing materials that are critical for preventing infection, reducing pain, and promoting proper healing.

In the past three months, Whispers treated thirteen new burn cases, which is fewer than in previous months. While this appears to be a positive trend, it also raises concern about how many children may have suffered burns but were unable to reach our hospital due to lack of information or financial constraints.

In addition to new admissions, we continue to care for many children who require regular dressing changes every two days for several weeks. Some patients return for follow-up reviews for more than six months to ensure their wounds are healing well and to prevent long-term complications.

On average, it costs just $12 to treat one child, which covers admission, regular dressing changes, medicines, and daily meals during their stay at the hospital. This small amount makes a significant difference for families who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment. Burn injuries continue to affect many children in our communities, but we are grateful that, with your support, we are able to manage these cases, relieve suffering, and give children a chance to heal and recover fully.
