This project will assist women and their children left without a means to navigate through the system of domestic abuse outside of a shelter environment. Victims receive free domestic violence counseling, therapy, case management, safety plans, support groups, protective orders, crime victims' compensation applications, and shelter placement if needed. As the foundation that bridges the steps between not needing a shelter and not being able to afford the private counseling needed to help heal.
Post COVID-19, domestic violence continues to rise at an alarming rate in the city of Houston and surrounding counties, affecting all walks of life. In 2022, a 52% increase in domestic violence incidents was documented in Harris County. Victims who do not need emergency shelter are more likely to not seek shelter for counseling, legal, or financial services, making it harder for them to restore their lives. Unfortunately, most people are unaware that these services exist outside of a shelter.
Fresh Spirit serves as the foundation that bridges the gap between not needing a shelter and not being able to afford the private counseling needed to help heal. Conforming to a virtual environment without having to come into the center, victims and survivors receive domestic violence counseling, therapy, case management, safety plans, support groups, assist with legal fees, protective orders, crime victim's compensation, and overnight accommodations and supplies when needed.
Your generosity will provide 500 victims annually with crisis intervention services, 5,000 hours of counseling, therapy, and case work, assist 100 victims through the criminal and civil justice system, and 800 hours of legal advocacy. Victims/Survivors receive support as they transition from their trauma to a life of safety and self-sufficiency.
