Leeds Women's Aid Report June 2024

By Nik Peasgood | Chief Executive

Hello all,

We want to start by saying a huge thank you for all the support you’ve given to Leeds Women’s Aid.

Your continued support allows us to provide vital services to support women and families to live a life free from abuse and fear.

Children and Young People’s Hub

We are continuing to fundraise for our Building a Brighter Future project. Our goal is to create a new hub dedicated to young people in families currently residing in our emergency refuge. This hub will provide children and young people with a place to relax, play, and connect with others, supporting their recovery from domestic violence and abuse.

Each year, Leeds Women’s Aid assists over 100 children and teens in refuge settings. Nearly every adult using our refuge services has children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence and abuse. These children range from newborns to 18-year-olds. The new hub aims to cater to all age groups, featuring a sensory area a dedicated zone for teenagers, a one-to-one room and a space to do different activities.

Following a special feature on BBC's Look North, our project has garnered attention from several fundraisers and supporters. Steph, a dedicated Leeds Women’s Aid employee, ran an impressive 100 miles to raise £1,170 for the hub. Additionally, local business KidzPlay has committed to fundraising for the project, aiming to raise £5,000 over five months following the feature on Look North.

Impact

We are delighted to share the Leeds Women’s Aid 2023 impact report.
In a year of increased demand, we are proud to have helped 3,500 people to access support, including nearly 100 families in refuge accommodation.
