GlobalGiving – February 2025
Hello all,
Thank you once again to everyone who has supported us over the past 12 months. We have been blown away by the generosity of individuals from across the globe, supporting our cause and helping us continue our work with women and families who have faced domestic violence and abuse.
Children and Young People Hub
We’re excited to announce that work on our Children and Young People Hub is set to start in Spring 2025. The Hub will provide a safe, supportive space for young people to relax, play and heal, offering an under-fives sensory zone, a dedicated space for teenagers, a new kitchen, accessible facilities and an upgraded heating system.
Christmas 2024
This Christmas, we were truly overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the organisations and individuals who donated items for the women and children who reside in our emergency refuge accommodation or donated money to help fund our vital services.
Families often have very few belongings when they arrive with us. The kind gifts of toys, books, pyjamas and toiletries made a massive difference and meant a great deal to the women and children we support, letting them know that people are thinking of them.
Our Impact 1 April 2023 - 31 March 2024
In England and Wales, 1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. Two women a week are killed by a current/former partner.
We received over 12,000 requests for support by either phone, email, webchat & referral
185 women and children were supported in our refuge accommodation
95% of women said they feel safer after LWA support
100% said our service was non-judgemental
“You learn so much and forgive yourself and actually love yourself when you realise it was never your fault.” – Quote from refuge resident.
Practitioner Quality Support
We recently received funding for a Practitioner Quality Support (PQS) Coordinator to provide support to DV&A practitioners across a number of supported housing services. The role ensures best practice is used across the services to ensure that victim-survivors of DV&A receive the right support. The PQS Coordinator leads a DV&A Practitioners Forum looking at developing ways of sharing and improving practice across Leeds.
