Hello all,
Here at Leeds Women’s Aid, we want to start 2026 by saying a huge thank you for your continued support. Together, we are helping women and children feel safe, valued, and supported as they rebuild their lives.
Children & Young People’s Hub
We are delighted to announce that the build of our Children & Young People's Hub at our refuge is now complete! We were thrilled to host our very first family event in the new space in December, complete with a special visit from Santa.
The hub provides a dedicated space for children and young people to relax, play and socialise, helping their recovery from the impacts of domestic abuse. It was wonderful to see the space in action and to watch the residents enjoying themselves.

Holding Warmth Recipe Book
In December, we were proud to share a recipe book created by women in refuge. Holding Warmth is a collection of recipes and stories contributed by women staying in our refuge accommodation, showing how food can bring comfort, warmth and connection.
At the launch, Nik Peasgood, Chief Executive of Leeds Women’s Aid, said:
“We are thrilled to launch Holding Warmth. Our refuge accommodation is home to a remarkable wealth of cultures, knowledge, and lived experience, and this project has brought the women together to highlight the power of sharing food.
“With one in four women experiencing domestic abuse at some point in their lives, we hope the book offers readers a sense of hope and resilience, that it is possible to begin again and rebuild your life.
A refuge resident and contributor, said:“Being part of this project has meant so much to me. My children and I are currently in a refuge, and while it’s been a hard journey after experiencing domestic abuse, we’re finally starting to heal. Our voices are being heard and through this recipe, I share not just comfort, but the courage it took to begin again.
“I’m proud to share a meal that brings warmth and connection to our family, and to be part of something that raises awareness and hope for others.”
Leeds Women’s Aid supports nearly 100 women and families in refuge settings each year. All funds raised from Holding Warmth will go towards the running costs of the refuges and Leeds Women’s Aid’s support services across Leeds.
Your ongoing support allows us to continue providing life-changing services for those who need it. Thank you and all the best for 2026.
