We have been very busy over the last few months here at NASLAAfrica Cameroon. One focus has been empowering smallholder farmers who have been severely affected by the current war crisis in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon. We supported these farmers with farm tools, skills trainings, and psychosocial support. We are prayerfully hoping peace will return to our region by 2024 or sooner! Meanwhile, Our full energy and a greater part of our resources this year has been directed towards acquiring a landed property that will be developed to an experiential learning space where the youths, community and neighbours can come learn, connect, share and experience regenerative practices/systems of agriculture and permaculture principles and ethics, entrepreneurship (business) skills. Our team of volunteers and partners have for the past 2-3 years engaged young people in Cameroon through our ROOT Biz workshop, teaching young people to learn how to farm and start a business, while educating youths on the importance of environmental protection and climate. These youths have had the opportunity through every session of our program to visit local farms and experience first-hand what is happening on the land while connecting to nature. This year we seek to expand the project towards creating a demonstration plot where not only the youths around us can benefit but people from surrounding communities even across the national borders can come and stay for a while living in eco-friendly structures, eating healthy food while learning and experiencing the beauty of agriculture and nature. Also this platform will help us intensify with our skills training program as participants have the opportunity to stay and learn in our space without distractions and more.
Blessed is NASLAAfrica this year as the land where we identified for the project was partially subsidised by the community through the leadership of the area. We began paying the cost of the land and have already paid up to 70% of the amount needed. We pray to complete this amount by the 1st quarter of 2024 so that we can kick-start work on the land to set up the centre. The centre shall be called Youth Agriculture and Permaculture Centre abbreviated as YAP centre located in Cameroon, Africa. This means as of January 2024, we will be in need of more volunteers who can come join us in Cameroon as we work towards creating this space where humanity is united through love, food and nature. We will also be welcoming any more support to help us attend our goals.
