“We have sent you a most recent photo of Aleksandar at our neighbour’s house, since our house has been destroyed in the most recent floods again and our neighbours have offered us a room till we could repair and dry our barn”, Dragoslav, Aleksandar’s Dad wrote in his e-mail sending us the photos of all the awards Aleksandar received at the graduation ceremony. “We can’t begin to tell you how grateful we are for the scholarship for Aleksandar for the last four years, since the first flood disaster! He could have never accomplished this without this support! We are so proud of him, but eternally grateful to you and all the people who donated their money to enable this scholarship”, wrote in his emotional letter, Aleksandar’s Dad.
Aleksandar has just graduated from High School with the Highest Honours and with a national Award for the pupils who not only have 5.0 as general average mark throughout a four-year secondary level education, but have also shown extraordinary success at various national competitions. In addition to that, he has received an award for being a best pupil of his generation in the School.
Four years ago, during the worst flood in the region, their 50-year-old family’s house was completely destroyed. Aleksandar, his sister and parents were literally left homeless. They moved to a barn in which the whole family has lived whilst trying to rebuild the house. Last month, new floods made even the barn impossible to sleep in.
Every single dinar that the family can earn goes to the efforts to make their house inhabitable again. And your donations have made it possible for Aleksandar to have clothes, shoes, text-books and school material to go to school. All his awards have been made possible because of your help!
