When Ali was just one year old, his parents discovered that he had a rare genetic blood disorder. Since then, his childhood has been a succession of hospitals, transfusions, and waiting. Today Ali is six, and every three weeks he needs a blood transfusion to stay alive. Over time, the pain and the constant hospital stays have changed him: he no longer wants to leave the house or play with other children, and at school he withdraws into himself.
Yet there is a real chance for him: a bone marrow transplant could finally offer him a definitive cure. But in Palestine, children who need a transplant face long waits, travel abroad, unaffordable costs, and the constant risk that everything is suspended at the last moment, exactly as happened to Ali.
For children with cancer or severe blood disorders, time makes all the difference.
This is why Soleterre is working to build the first Bone Marrow Transplant Center in Palestine, at the Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah. We are training Palestinian doctors and nurses, setting up dedicated sterile rooms, and laying the foundations to perform the first transplants in the coming months.
Behind every delay is a child slowly losing their childhood. Behind every denied permit is a family watching the chance of a cure slip away. Bringing treatment closer means giving these children back time, safety, and the possibility to heal without crossing a border.
Because where today there is a border, together we can build a cure.
