We are planting thousands of trees!

By Maria Varela | Project Leader

Dear Donors

Now yes - we are planting thousands of trees!

The rains have arrived in the Peruvian highlands, against all odds due to the climatic effects of the El Niño phenomenon.

More than 2000 farming families in Cusco are very motivated to plant their trees for the future in a communal way.

All these months we have been taking care of the nurseries,

It is a hard work of the Pachamama Raymi team to plan with more than 30 communities and their Forestry Committees the tasks to zone the areas to be planted and those that will have other uses that will also dynamize their economy. Work to mark, mark out and dig holes for the trees.

This year we have been using the Chilean bare root production technique in the nurseries. The night before planting, we have to prepare the plants with hydrogel and compost to guarantee humidity and survival conditions.

In each of the 5 Districts we do the "Lanzamiento Forestal" with the ritual of the Andes, the payment to the earth.  We are accompanied by the authorities of the communities, the Municipality, the National Forestry Service (SERFOR), the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) and the National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA).

In many farming communities, they go out into the fields before dawn in order to have a good yield. Each person goes up the mountain with 200 seedlings, their compost and their tools.

Among them is the chaquitaclla, also known as the foot plough, which was one of the most important farming tools in the Andean world. According to archaeological sources, the chaquitaclla is a very ancient instrument, dating back to the beginnings of agriculture in America.

We hope that the rains will continue to accompany us until our plantation is complete.

Then we will be verifying the geo-referencing and making the maps, to give to each community and make them feel prouder and happier of the goals achieved.

Also since October we have been producing 750,000 patula pine seedlings for the 2024 campaign, which will take longer to care for in the nursery. These will go into the field in our next forestry campaign 2024-2025.

- We are grateful to find ourselves in a situation that allows us to continue to serve the farming families.

- We hope to continue to count on your generosity and to continue sowing prosperity!

- Help us with your donation, tell your loved ones about our project, let's Sow Prosperity!

 BLESSINGS

                - TEAM PACHAMAMA RAYMI
