Helping kids with clefts to Smile again (Colombia)

There are many ways to build a smile, we work in the operating room to make them shine, but in 2021 we will also work tirelessly with our entire team to strengthen these smiles in different ways: at home through 367 psychosocial support services for patients and families, more than 10 external recreational and educational activities in parks, universities and schools, humanitarian support with the delivery of food, clothing and gifts.

Every effort adds up and makes a difference in our children, little by little we achieve wonderful results.

A brave children is born and become a hero!

Erick was born with a complete Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate, one of the most aggressive malformations in this field. His parents are a couple of adolescents and farm workers in Risaralda, who receive this baby with great love, but in anguish, completely not knowing how to handle this type of situation. Our support team of the Foundation receives them and begins the whole process of training parents in the special care that their baby needs, for three months Erick receives specialized care in Maxillary Orthopedics with which he seeks to install an obturator plate on his palate to facilitate gradual closure and safe feeding of the baby. This process is prepared by your first test: Cleft Lip Closure Surgery

This little boy enters the operating room in December 2020 for his primary lip closure surgery, for 4 hours this brave gives everything for his happiness and our medical team with great love, disposition and professionalism rebuilds his smile. Fundación Sonríe provides all the support to this brave man and his family through a multidisciplinary team that benefits Erick in his arduous recovery process: a comprehensive treatment that can last from 15 years to approximately 17 years.

These smiles are the incentive of our team of professionals, doctors, administrators, volunteers that make up the Fundación Sonríe. Our motto "We are more than smiles" is also reflected in the eyes of our little ones, in giving them the opportunity to live and enjoy their childhood normally.

Erick: his greatest power is his smile and his armor is bravery! With everyone's support, we can make him grow like a hero by facing all the stages of his treatment to see him grow and tell his life story with gratitude and satisfaction.
