The current escalation of armed violence in Haiti has led to significant internal displacement, with families forced to flee their homes in search of safety. Displaced populations face major challenges, including a lack of access to basic services, poor sanitary conditions, and high levels of psychological distress.
Action et Transformation is currently addressing these urgent needs through targeted interventions in displacement sites, particularly in the Pierre Labitrie camp. In the first quarter of 2026, Action et Transformation’s efforts have focused on training sessions on hygiene and sanitation, as well as psychological counseling to support the health of displaced persons.
The site in Pierre Labitrie, where Action et Transformation provides regular assistance, is home to 740 families and/or households. Recently, Action et Transformation donated liquid detergent to ensure that these displaced people could wash themselves, do their laundry, and clean the common areas.
According to data collected by our team of volunteers, households living in temporary shelters wish to relocate or move to other cities where there is less violence. To do this, we need financial resources to help them cover travel expenses and/or rent an apartment in areas less affected by gang violence.
The recorded data provide an estimate of the number of people living at the Pierre Labitrie site, broken down by gender and age, as shown in the following table:
The camp is housing displaced people according to:
1. - Breakdown by age group and gender:
Age range Boys Girls Total
0 to 11 months 4 5 9
1 to 5 years 115 136 251
6 to 11 years 90 80 170
12 to 17 years 103 126 229
18 to 59 years 920 933 1 853
60 years and over 115 113 228
Therefore, resources are needed to facilitate the movement and/or relocation of displaced persons. These funds would enable families to:
The situation of displaced persons in Haiti remains critical and requires urgent, coordinated, and sustainable support. Targeted investments in basic services and relocation assistance will significantly improve the safety, dignity, and resilience of affected populations.
