Help for Ukrainian refugees

In response to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, Te Aud Romania has undertaken significant efforts to integrate Ukrainian refugee children into the local community. This report highlights our sports projects aimed at fostering intercultural dialogue, as well as our partnership and support for the first Ukrainian women refugee-led organization in Suceava. Through these initiatives, we aim to build a cohesive, supportive environment for refugees and promote mutual understanding and cooperation within the community.

The influx of Ukrainian refugees into Romania has presented both challenges and opportunities for integration. Ukrainian refugee children, in particular, face the dual burden of adapting to a new environment while coping with the trauma of displacement. Integrating these children into the community is essential for their well-being and for fostering social cohesion. Our approach has focused on creating inclusive environments where these children can thrive, feel safe, and be active participants in community life.

Sports Projects and Intercultural Dialogue

Sports have proven to be a powerful tool for integration and intercultural dialogue. Te Aud Romania has launched several sports projects aimed at bringing together Ukrainian refugee children and local children. These projects include:

• Mixed Football Teams: Organizing football matches where teams are composed of both Ukrainian and local children. This encourages teamwork, communication, and friendships across cultural boundaries.
• Community Sports Days: Hosting events where various sports are played, allowing children to interact in a fun and informal setting. These events often include family members, fostering broader community involvement.
• Sports Clinics and Workshops: Providing training sessions led by professional coaches focusing on skills development, teamwork, and cultural exchange. These clinics not only improve physical fitness but also promote understanding and respect among participants.

Through these sports projects, children learn to collaborate, build friendships, and appreciate cultural diversity. These activities also provide a sense of normalcy and joy, helping refugee children to cope with their experiences and integrate more smoothly into their new environment.

Partnership with Ukrainian Women Refugee-Led Organization

Te Aud Romania is proud to support the first Ukrainian women refugee-led organization in Suceava. This partnership has been instrumental in addressing the specific needs of Ukrainian refugees and empowering women to take active roles in their community. Our support includes:

• Resource Provision: Supplying essential materials and resources to help the organization establish and operate effectively. This includes office supplies, communication tools, and funding for activities.
• Capacity Building: Offering training sessions and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of the organization’s members. Topics covered include project management, fundraising, advocacy, and leadership.
• Collaborative Events: Co-organizing events and activities that address the needs of the refugee community. These include cultural festivals, educational workshops, and community gatherings designed to foster inclusion and mutual support.
• Mentorship and Networking: Connecting the organization with other NGOs, local authorities, and international bodies to expand their network and access additional support and opportunities.

The integration of Ukrainian refugee children and the support of the first Ukrainian women refugee-led organization in Suceava are critical components of Te Aud Romania’s mission to foster an inclusive and supportive community. Through sports projects that promote intercultural dialogue and robust support for community-led initiatives, we are making significant strides in ensuring that Ukrainian refugees can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. Our continued commitment to these efforts underscores the importance of solidarity, collaboration, and compassion in the face of adversity.

February 2024 marks 2 years of armed conflict in Ukraine and one of the biggest humanitarian crises that ever existed. Ever since the war emerged, over 7 million Ukrainian refugees have passed through Romania, with 83.675 still residing in the country, according to the UNHCR, The UN Refugee Agency.

In Suceava County, there are currently 190 Ukrainian refugee children who are enrolled in the Romanian educational system, according to information that we received from the Suceava County School Inspectorate who still require our support to integrate more easily into the community.
As a charity focused on non-formal educational programs for children, we are committed to developing long term solutions to integrate Ukrainian refugee children within the community and provide a safe and appropriate environment to alleviate the pain and grow.

In this context, Te Aud Romania will continue to develop non-formal educational programs to support Ukrainian refugee children in adapting to their new life in Romania. We will continue to develop integrated projects that will provide a holistic approach to the integration of Ukrainian refugees into the local community through activities involving both Ukrainian refugees and members of the host community in common activities. Our organization will continue to collaborate with local authorities, nongovernmental organizations and other institutions to develop and implement projects and programs aimed at Ukrainian refugees.

Te Aud Romania will continue to promote understanding and tolerance between Ukrainian refugees and the host community by organizing events and activities that encourage dialogue and collaboration among different groups within the community.
