In April 2025, the Global Diversity Foundation, in collaboration with the ReBuild programme of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), organised a large-scale spring seed distribution across four communes in the High Atlas: Imegdal, Ijoukak, Talat N’Yaacoub, and Ighil. This initiative, part of our ongoing Earthquake Response Programme, was designed to strengthen food sovereignty and support local farmers with high-quality seeds ahead of the spring planting season.
The distribution focused on staple and reproducible crops, providing access to nutritious, locally adapted varieties. Key highlights and outcomes are outlined below:
Overall Reach and Quantities Distributed
The spring 2025 distribution supported 3,458 farmers across the four target communes. The total quantity of seeds distributed was:
These seeds are expected to cover approximately 1,000 hectares of farmland, contributing significantly to household food production and regional seed sovereignty.
Impact and Outlook
This spring distribution reinforced equitable seed access across all communes, bolstering farmers’ capacity to recover from climate shocks and last year’s earthquake. By prioritising local and reproducible seeds, the initiative also promotes sustainable, community-driven agriculture.
Through collaborative efforts with local partners and producers, the Global Diversity Foundation continues to advance its commitment to regenerative farming systems and resilient food cultures in the High Atlas.
