We’d like to share the story of Poppy - TOLFA’s HDU provided the caring and supportive environment this puppy needed to overcome a terrible ordeal
The streets of Rajasthan can be harsh for street dogs, and Poppy, a spirited pup from Pushkar, faced this reality when she was struck by a speeding car, severely injuring her front leg. Abandoned in pain, Poppy’s journey seemed bleak, but it is one of courage and transformation.
When brought to TOLFA, she was terrified and in excruciating pain. The team quickly realised that amputation of her damaged leg was necessary, but first, Poppy had to battle a life-threatening illness, canine distemper. This viral disease weakened her immune system, complicating her recovery. It took weeks of gentle care for her to trust others again, and gradually she began to heal.
With round-the-clock care and nutritious meals, Poppy regained strength. Once strong enough, she underwent amputation and learned to walk on three legs with incredible resilience. Her transformation was remarkable; the fearful dog blossomed, greeting her caregivers with wagging tails.
During recovery in our High Dependency Unit, she formed a heartwarming bond with Tippy Toes, a nurturing cat who provided comfort during vulnerable moments, emphasizing the power of kindness across species.
Poppy’s story highlights the importance of compassion and resilience. Now thriving at TOLFA, she plays joyfully and serves as a reminder that every animal deserves a second chance. Poppy’s journey showcases the strength of the spirit and the hope that can flourish even amidst adversity.
Thank you for supporting this amazing facilitiy that helps so many animals very day.
