SKILLED BIRTH ATTENDANT (SBA) & RURAL OBSTETRICAL ULTRASOUND TRAINING (ROUSG)
SBA training is essential for the safety of the mother and child especially in rural Nepal where services and facilities are limited and higher facilities in urban areas are not within the means of an average rural family. This training is normally carried out in a higher facility like a maternity hospital in an urban setting where OB/GYN specialists who are trained facilitators provide comprehensive skill development training to midwives during a two month period. HHC carried out SBA training to 6 midwives on May 11 to July 9, 2023, at Bhaktapur Hospital. The trainnees were from Ruby Valley, Gangajamuna, Khaniyabas, Gajuri, Siddhalekh and Benighat Rorang RMs.
Rural Ultrasound or ROUSG:
HHC also carried out three week long basic training to SBA certified women health providers from June 14 to July 4, 2023, AMDA Hospital, Jhapa (far eastern Nepal) like nurses, health assistants and nurse midwives to further help rural women during pregnancy and on-site deliveries. This technology will help detect abnormalities which can help with timely referrals to bigger centers to minimize the risk born by mother and child during child birth. This training was provided by experts in government designated centers in cities to help midwives use portable USG machines that are now available in each rural municipalities through the government. The trainees were from 5 rural municipalities of Dhading namely Ruby Valley, Netrawati, Jwalamukhi, Siddhalekh and Benighat Rorang.
