From Christmas Cheer to Continued Care: Taking the Rights Path in rural Eswatini
At the beginning of December, we joined the global community in commemorating World AIDS Day, celebrated under the theme “Take the Rights Path.” This theme emphasizes the importance of addressing inequalities and ensuring equal access to healthcare to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. Our organization remains committed to this goal, and we are proud to share our ongoing efforts to provide compassionate HIV care and support to children and their caregivers in the rural Lubombo communities.
Each year, we host a Christmas party for the members of our Teen Club, which serves as a peer support group offering a safe space for adolescents living with HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this support group is to connect these young individuals with others who understand their unique experiences, while also providing a platform for health check-ups and treatment refills. We are pleased to report that we are closing out the year with 23 teens in the club, most of whom attended the annual Christmas party. It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, games, and delicious festive treats. The party provided a much-needed break from the challenges these young people face, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Our Teen Club is a vital component of our organization’s efforts to provide compassionate healthcare within our communities.
Your Support, Our Impact.
In rural Lubombo, where poverty, limited access to healthcare and the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS have created a context where many children face the additional hardship of orphanhood, your support provides a crucial lifeline. These children often experience stigma, isolation, and obstacles in accessing consistent medical care, which makes adhering to treatment and maintaining a positive outlook on life incredibly difficult. This is why our Teen Club is so essential. It offers a safe space for adolescents to connect with peers who understand their struggles, receive important health check-ups and treatment refills, and simply enjoy being kids. This year's Christmas party, made possible by radical givers like you, served as a powerful reminder of the joy and sense of belonging that everyone deserves, regardless of their socio-economic background or HIV Status.
We are also actively working to expand our reach and impact through our other HIV services. This year, our efforts have resulted in a significant increase in testing and treatment initiation. We are also proud to have maintained a 90% rate of successful ART (antiretroviral therapy) enrollment for all patients who tested positive.
By supporting this project, you are not only providing essential healthcare services but also actively addressing the systemic inequalities that people living in disadvantaged communities face. Your support empowers them to overcome adversity, build resilience, and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. We invite you to join us in our mission to provide care for children and caregivers living with HIV in rural Eswatini. Please consider donating today.
