CHIPS (Community HIV Intervention Programme in Swaziland) continues to provide HIV care and treatment in the Lubombo Region. The following patient services were provided over the past two months:
One of our HIV+ patients, a woman in her late 20's from Section 19, was very sick last week. The local Rural Health Motivator living in the community passed the information to the CHIPS staff. With the transport we are able to provide as part of the CHIPS program, she was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital where she was admitted and treated for pneumonia. She is currently recovering in the hospital.
Transport to health care facilities is only one of the services CHIPS provides in the local communities. But without the transport assistance most people who need medical attention for urgent or chronic conditions (like HIV) will never receive it.
