Romania Animal Rescue's Homeless Animals Hospital receives over a thousand animals a year, animals brought in by people who have found them injured, local rescuers, or pets of the impoverished. Our goal is to never turn anyone away due to lack of funds.
We would like to share a recent recipient of our care, Costa.
Costa was found with a friend abandoned at a cemetery. He was taken by a Good Samaritan who already cares for many foster dogs all needing forever homes. Costa's adjustment into living as part of a large group of dogs did not go well and he was rushed to the Homeless Animals Hospital clinic as an emergency after receiving a severe bite over the chest.
First appearances can be deceiving as there were just a few puncture wounds to the skin. The bite had caused a hernia, a tear in the muscle wall, if left his intestines might pass through and become occluded. X rays showed six broken ribs. Costa was in a serious condition and was rushed to surgery as soon as he was stable for anesthesia. There was no guarantee the little dog would survive. The hernia was repaired without complication but the chest injuries were much more complicated than was anticipated. Under the small bite holes the muscle was severely traumatized with more holes leading straight into the chest cavity. Once these were uncovered Costa could no longer breathe for himself and he had to be manually ventilated under controlled anesthesia whilst his ribs were wired and all of the tears in his chest muscle were sutured. It was a long surgery but the plucky pup pulled through. Even with two types of IV antibiotic and daily cleaning of the wounds Costa still battled infection from his bites. It took almost 2 weeks of hospitalization before he could be discharged and his ribs and muscles are still healing.
We are pleased to say he is now out of danger but he still needs guardian angels to sponsor his surgery and treatment. Can you help us to pay for the treatment of Costa and so many others who are brought to Homeless Animals Hospital please? We depend entirely upon donations for our work.
Thank you everyone. We wish you a lovely autumn!
