Project Report | Oct 23, 2019
To support Homeless community

By S.M. Arasu | Founder Director

Summary

We aim to establish a centre for the homeless and offer them services to improve their quality of life. Our project will provide empowerment, counseling, de-addiction and vocational training to help these individuals to have a transition from a life of poverty and to integrated them into our society.

Challenge

The Homeless community in Puducherry face many challenges such no housing, unhygienic stay on the roadside, illetracy and alcoholism. The community is not aware of the government schemes available and they do not make use of it. With the above said scenario, they are unable to integrate themselves with the society.

Solution

In 2017, with the support of a Dutch volunteer, we started this initiative. Many awareness generation programs on alcoholism, personal hygiene, domestic violence and women rights were conducted. People in the community are motivated to form a micro credit group to save money and to get credit from the bank so that they can start their own business or to start a new business. We arrange access to vocational training on tailoring and embroidery and the children are motivated to attend summer camp.

Long-Term Impact

To empower and support these individuals reintegrate into society without having to live on the streets. Updates Prime Trust with its team supports the individuals by providing awareness education on Saturdays provides counseling, support the children with school supplies. The children are motivated to attend evening remedial classes at our centre.
