Puducherry has experienced 36.2 mm of rainfall in the month of November 2021 causing huge damage on houses and people living in low lying area were evacuated and accommodated in disaster relief shelters. Still efforts are made to clear water. The Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall in upcoming days.
The low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has resulted in rains over parts of Puduchery since 17th Wednesday, 2021. Since, Puducherry is a low-lying area and houses are surrounded by stagnated water. People are unable to move out to buy their essential needs. Most of the houses near the river bank got engulfed by the flood. Prime Trust is trying to help and support the community with immediate needs.
The people on the streets have to take shelfter in the nearby schools or the place arranged by the government. The people lost their household materials and note books of their children.
Prime Trust is striving hard to make this communty to bring to the main stream by providing vocational training skills and supporting children for their education.
Prime Trust along with their partner NGOs were able to provide dry ration and school supplies.
