Summary
The objective of this project is to extend support to the deprived community living on the streets. These communities are in need of our support as they are abandoned by the society and live under the shadows of society in Pondicherry. We aim to establish a centre for the homeless and offer them services to improve their quality of life. Our project will provide empowerment, counseling, de-addiction and vocational training to help these individuals transition from a life of poverty to integrated members of our society.
Challenge
The urban poor face many challenges such as lack of an employment, education and place to live. The entire family lives on the banks of sewage canal with mosquito bites and with unhealthy living conditions. The photo above shows children, sitting in what is their home. Though there is some government support available, these individuals struggle to find access to these limited resources. Their lack of financial resources, education and home stability result in them living in cycles of poverty and homelessness.
Solution
In 2017, we aim to support 10 homeless women with children at our Homeless Centre. At our Centre we will provide those services such as counseling, domestic violence protection, de-addiction and rehabilitation support. We will also arrange access to vocational training and micro-credit opportunities to help them achieve financial stability. Children will be provided proper education and access to any of the evening schools of Prime Trust.
Long-Term Impact
To empower and support these individuals reintegrate into society without having to live on the streets. Hence, we are trying to raise support to have a shelter home which would accommodate needy people.
Updates
Prime Trust with its team supports the individuals by providing awareness education on Saturdays provides counseling, support the children with school supplies. We are trying to form Self Help Groups to support the community through micro credit.
