Care for 20 homeless families in Tbilisi, Georgia

Round the world there are more special people like you who have chosen to help homeless young people in Tbilisi.  Some of you have been helping for several years and some of you have just found us.  We are grateful to you all.  

Today we want to introduce you to some people closer to home in Tbilisi, who are also giving generously and making your financial donations go further.

The first is a new volunteer called Eka, who is helping out Jemali.  In the evening she goes around the city streets with Jemali to feed the children. Eka is a psychology student. The children like her a lot. If for some reason Eka cannot go to feed them, the children always ask Jemal to bring her the next day with him. 

The second is a guest, who wanted to remain nameless, but who has given the most extraordinary gift to two of our families.

With our help these two families rented a small house in a village near Tbilisi.  They still often used to come back to eat with us.  One of our volunteers also helped their older kids to study for school. During one of their visits, they were introduced to one of our guests, who was going to leave Georgia to live abroad with her child. The guest brought some of her belongings to us as gifts.

When the guest heard that these two families had raised their children on the streets and that they still did not own their own home, the guest asked us if the two families could live together. We told the guest that those two families have been renting an apartment together for a long time.

The guest told us that she had a country house near Tbilisi. She said she could not sell the house, because the money that has been offered to her was, in her opinion, too little. She said she would rather give it to a good cause and since these families were relatives and that they could live together, she decided to give her house to them. She said the house was not that well furnished, but most importantly there is transport that goes to Tbilisi and the travel time is only 30 minutes. We accepted her offer with a lot of happiness.     

Together these two remarkable people are helping us to distribute the food you help us buy, and are helping some of our residents to a secure future.  It is really important to us that we are part of a local and global community of people who care, and would like you to feel part of it too.  If you have any questions for us, or messages you would like to pass on, do get in touch via our English-speaking helper, Sarah Gale (sarah.sgf@live.com).
