Georgian teens don't take your help for granted

Our residents are very keen to show that they don't take for granted all the help which they have received thanks to you and donors like you around the world.  This report is totally down to them.  They have done the work, and they told me what they wanted to say.

This spring, one of our residents, Kote, and his friends who are also Mkurnali residents planted vegetables so that we could harvest them in the autumn and not have to buy herbs and vegetables in the shops and markets.  This should lower our running costs. The youngsters planted tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, red peppers, beans, herbs, and melons.

They also decided to decorate the house by themselves. They said that since their house is the beautiful gift that St Gregory's Foundation has given them, it needs good care. They explained that they wanted to show this gratitude by giving the best of their efforts. These past seven years that we have lived in this house, the renovation became old and the walls in the rooms where the children lived got ruined. The little children had scratched the walls and in some places, they ripped the wallpaper off. So now our residents gathered money from their earnings and happily started decorating with the materials they bought. They also assembled the beds that were given by the European Commission and put them in the rooms.

At the same time, also with help from donations, when we changed the boiler we also installed three new heaters inside.

Everything, both the heating additions and the decorating, was done under the watchful eye of our supervisor Jemal and several residents were keen to show they had gained experience through work they had done on construction sites.

It will be warm all summer in Tbilisi but we know that we will have a very different and more comfortable winter than we had before and in a house freshly painted all with our own efforts.

If you want to donate again, you can see that your donation will be appreciated.  Today your donation will also go further since GlobalGiving will be adding a 50% bonus to donations as long as matching funds last.  They will also add a fantastic 100%bonus to new recurring donation set up at any point today.  With your help, we'll be able to be there for our residents until they are able to completely stand on their own two feet, and we'll be able to extend a helping hand to the many teenagers still living on the streets.

Thank you again for your generosity.
