HPV is a prevalent virus that can lead to the development of cervical cancer, the number one cause of death among women in the West African country of Mali. The HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention Program seeks to create (and one day implement) the best possible distribution of the HPV vaccination in Mali.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) causes cervical cancer, which can easily become a death sentence for women in Mali. The unfortunate reality is that developing nations such as Mali have yet to gain access to the HPV vaccine- an inoculation already approved in 125 different countries worldwide. This vaccine specifically targets two strands of the HPV virus that are intrinsically connected to cervical cancer, thus preventing its development. However, there are other crucial healthcare steps that can be taken to save lives.
Few women in Mali are aware of the importance of receiving cervical exams. When these exams are made available to the population on a yearly basis, cervical cancer can be prevented. This comes from educating communities about the importance of the examinations, and promoting these crucial healthcare steps.
This program is actively working to reduce the rate of cervical cancer, as well as decrease its high mortality rate among Malian women. This goal would not be possible without your help. With a donation of $15, you would be providing treatment for one woman with precancerous lesions. With a donation of $25, you would be providing supplies for cervical cancer screenings for five women. With a generous donation of $100, you would be covering the salary of a doctor providing cervical cancer screenings for an entire month! We thank you for your continuous support, as we persevere in our mission of reducing the incidence of infectious disease that disproportionately affects the underserved.
