Respected Donor Namaste!!

Many Greetings from RSKS India!!

We have been getting your valuable generous support through GlobalGiving and we are thankful to you from the core of our heart.

Life had been ruined in the western region of Rajasthan, Dhorimnna Rural Area, Barmer due to severe flood. Heavy rainfalls for many days arose the problem of water stagnation in many regions, many people lost their cattles, crops were ruined and huts got destroyed due to which many people had lost their shelters. The flood caused excessive loss of life and wealth.

Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan got the grant of $10,000 from GlobalGiving Foundation under ''South Asia Flood Relief Fund'' to provide relief to the victims of the flood in Dhorimnna Rural Area, Barmer. Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Santhan, with the support of the financial aid, conducted the relief program in several phases. Our activists have been engages in the flood relief campaign for last 8 months under which several programs have been held. They are listed below with brief description.

** Ration (FOOD) Distribution Program :- The terrible flood ruined houses and huts of people which caused the problem of food for the affected population. In the first phase of the relief campaign, Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan distributed ration to 300 victim families to provide them some relief. The ration included 27 kg flour, pulses, rice, soap, sugar, oil, Dry grains, etc. Now, the victims families got some relief as they had got ration through which they managed their meal for some days. As people lost their houses in the flood, they had to live in tents in outdoor like Desert, Farm in chilled winter. Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan found it difficult to reach victim families as most of the region was water logged, then to we provide relief to all victim families.

** Warm Blanket Distribution Program :- During winters, there was extremely cold in the flood affected regions. People had to live in outdoor and most of the families didn't have blankets to keep themselves safe from cold as they had lost everything in the flood. All victims families were then homeless. Therefore, Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan distributed woollen blankets to them so to protect them from cold. In the second phase, blankets were distributed to more than 470 flood victim families.

** Mosquito Nets Distribution :- After heavy rainfall, there remained water loggin problem of several months in Barmer as the rate of water absorption by soil was less. The water logging caused the environment polluted as the stagnated water got contaminated due to which mosquitoes breed there. Increasing population of mosquitoes became a severe one as they cause several diseases. Now, the victim families had to face health related problems. Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan gave them mosquito nets to get them relief from the problem. The organization gave more than 200 victims families were living in outdoors then. The victim familes then got relief from mosquito prone diseases and could sleep without the fear of mosquitoes. Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan was dedicated to provide relief to the victims.

** Government Aid :- The efforts of Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan provide primary relief to the victim families. It was our efforts which helped the over 65 victims family to get an aid of Rs. 5,200 from the government. This minor aid proved itself a great relief to the victim families in those circumstances. People utilized the aid to get their houses repaired and thus, they were able to reside again in their houses. The government aid provided makeshift relief to the victim families. People were supported by Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan to get the government aid and each victim family got the aid.

** House/Hut Construction for victim family:- Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan utilized the entire grant received from GlobalGiving Foundation under South Asia Relief Fund for providing relief to the flood victim families. In the last phase of the relief program, the organization constructed houses for 10 flood victim families. In this phase, first a survey was done and 10 victim families were selected on the basis of the report of the survey. The houses of the selected families were totally ruined by the flood. Under the financial aid which we got from GlobalGiving Foundation, the proposed expenditure for one house estimated to Rs. 28,500 and it was impossible to construct a house in such a low capital as the construction material was supplied from Gujarat which increased its cost.

Our team did all hard work for 50 days to find the solution of the problem. As the cost of reaching the flood affected region was so high that the budget for other stuffs remained short. In addition to this, there were so many problems in the house construction and the budget kept increasing. Water logging made the soil swampy and in such conditions house could not be constructed, for making the soil feasible for the construction it required additional cost.

Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan faced acute problem and there was a moment too when our activists lost their hope. But, God always supports the benefactors. After November, we find a way of hope when an unknown donor donated $2,250 for the project which brought an energy to all our activists. After the hard work of 4 months, we got the construction of the housed completed and gave them to 10 victim families. In the construction, from the foundation to furnishing, quality materials were used. We consider all the standards for the long life of the houses and the families feel safe. We organized a program and invited public representatives and the houses were handed over to the victims by the representatives. We are running short of words to express the happiness and relief we observed on the faces of the families at the time of getting keys of the houses.

** Cattle (Goat and sheep) Distribution Program :-The major occupation of the people in the flood affected region was animal husbandry, but the flood ruined their crops and the cattles flew away in the flood. Now, the population had to face the problem of unemployment as they dind't have their cattles and the fields were not feasible for agriculture. The fields were almost drowned in water, so agricutlture was impposible then. The problem was solved with teh financial support of GlobalGiving Foundation. thirty (A pair of livestock for each family) goats/sheep were given for 15 flood victim families for their Better livelihood so that they many be able to start daily earnings. The victims families got some sort of relief and got a sustainable livelihood.

** Base Line and End Line Survey, Beneficiaries & Community Feedback :- Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan had a base line survey in the beginning of the relief project so that relief should be provided to the actual victims. We had a survey at the beginning of each phase of the project, then selected the victims on the basis of the reports of the surey. Similarly, at the completion of the project we also had an end line survey to ensure that aid was provided to each victim.

We took feedback from the beneficairy families, the community and public representatives in each phase of the project to ensure the standard of the relief work and to bring transparency in the relief work. All government representatives gave positive feedback and said, "Such an extensive relief work has not been managed ever by the government" and appreciate the standard of the relief work. All the public representatives and beneficiary families appreciated the efforts of GlobalGiving Foundation and Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan and thanked us.
