Fuel Relief Fund was helping in TX 3 days after the devastating Hurricane Harvey hit land. The areas hit by the eye of the storm were without fuel due to severe damage to Refineries, Pipelines, and Stations. Areas affected by flooding were unable to access fuel.
Thanks to the incredible support of our donors and our partner GlobalGiving, we were able to help thousands of people receive free fuel. This fuel was used for transportation of emergency vehicles, police cars, fire trucks and ambulances as well as for trucks and vehicles of individuals so they could flee the area. In addition fuel was given away to many individuals who solely relied on generators to power their homes.
In Rockport and Port Aransas and surrounding areas (areas hit by the eye of the storm) Fuel Relief Fund gave away close to 16,000 gallons of gasoline and 1,750 of diesel.
In Silsbee, a town greatly affected by the floods, we gave away almost 3500 gallons of gasoline and 300 gallons of diesel.
The whole team working for Fuel Relief Fund consisted of volunteers. These volunteers worked tirelessly all day and mostly slept in their cars or trucks. Our gratitude goes out to them as well. All funds received through GlobalGiving were used to purchase fuel.
Now that most fuel stations in the area have opened and citizens and local first responders once more are able to get fuel, we have decided to stop our efforts in South Texas. Fuel Relief Fund is ready with fuel trucks, volunteers, and equipment poised to respond to Irma.
THANKS again for the tremendous support and your confidence in our organization.
