The Sandwich Generation refers to an individual who is caring for aging parents alongside raising children. It’s understandably a taxing scenario to act as a caregiver to dependents on both ends — and sometimes a little outside help is the only answer.
We recently bumped into a Puerto Rico mom who found herself in such a sandwich-like pickle.
“I heard her trying to come up with a plan because her mom was getting operated, and she had to save up because she had to take time off during her mom’s recovery,” said Loraine, a Jake’s Diapers partner who distributes our hygiene items to locals in Puerto Rico. This mother has a 12-year-old daughter who is in a wheelchair because of spina bifida.
“I approached her and asked if she knew about cloth diapers and she was puzzled for a moment,” Loraine said. “I explained and talked to her about Jake’s Diapers and their amazing program. She looked at me dumbfounded and said, ‘I don’t have to worry about diapers? Oh, my God?! You just wash them?”
Loraine says the mother left happily relaxed, with a supply of diapers for her daughter. This mom is one of many that Loraine has met recently, and we’re so thankful for the support you provide to make a difference in the lives of these families.
