Introduction

Joy Foundation Pakistan is a non-profit organization committed to uplifting underprivileged communities. As part of its continued efforts to promote health, hygiene, and dignity, the organization implemented a vital initiative focusing on adolescent girls. This report highlights the successful implementation of the Hygiene Kits Distribution and Construction of Toilets for Girls Project in selected rural and semi-urban areas.

Project Objectives

The primary objectives of the project were:

  • To improve menstrual hygiene management (MHM) among school-going girls
  • To promote awareness of personal hygiene and reproductive health
  • To reduce absenteeism among girls during menstruation
  • To provide safe, private, and clean sanitation facilities for girls in schools

Project Activities

3.1 Hygiene Kits Distribution

Target Areas:

District Toba Tek Singh and surrounding areas

Beneficiaries:
school-going girls (ages 10–18 years)

Families of village area

Distribution Process:

Hygiene kits were distributed in 10 villages in close coordination with village group teams. Orientation sessions were conducted prior to distribution to ensure that beneficiaries clearly understood the correct use and importance of the hygiene materials.

Awareness Sessions

Topics Covered:

  • Menstrual hygiene and health
  • Importance of personal cleanliness

Methodology:
Interactive workshops, role plays, question-and-answer sessions, and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials were used. All sessions were conducted in local languages to ensure better understanding and participation.

Construction of Toilets for Girls

Number of Toilets Constructed:

Three (3) new girl-friendly toilets

Key Features:

  • Proper ventilation
  • Running water and handwashing facilities
  • Dustbins with lids for safe disposal
  • Doors with internal locks to ensure privacy

Community Involvement:

Local masons and school management committees were actively involved in the construction process to promote sustainability, community ownership, and long-term maintenance of the facilities.
