Nigeria has over 1.7 million children living with HIV, yet many are undiagnosed or untreated. Without care, these children face high risk of illness and death. This project provides testing, treatment, and follow-up care for vulnerable children, helping them live healthier lives. Immediate action is needed to reach children in hard-to-access communities and prevent avoidable deaths while ensuring they remain in school and maintain their daily activities.
Many Nigerian children living with HIV are not diagnosed or treated due to poverty, distance from clinics, and stigma. Without early care, HIV progresses rapidly, causing severe illness and high mortality. Families often lack resources for medication or transport. Delayed treatment affects children's growth, education, and quality of life, leaving them at risk of opportunistic infections and long-term health complications.
This project will identify children living with HIV through community outreach and testing campaigns. Positive cases will receive antiretroviral treatment, nutrition support, and regular medical monitoring. Families will receive counseling and education on care and adherence. Follow-up visits ensure treatment continues effectively, preventing illness, supporting healthy growth, and keeping children in school.
Children receiving timely HIV treatment can live healthy lives, grow normally, and continue their education. Families gain knowledge and confidence in managing HIV, reducing stigma in the community. Communities benefit as more children remain healthy and productive. In the long term, early detection and consistent treatment reduce childhood deaths from HIV, lower transmission rates, and improve overall child health outcomes in vulnerable regions of Nigeria.
