Illuminating Earthquake Victims through Solar Panels

By Aya El Majdoubi | HAF intern

The High Atlas Foundation (HAF) is implementing a solar lamp distribution plan to bring light and safety to the impacted communities of the earthquake.

A total of 307 solar lamps and 476 tents were distributed to 476 families in the disaster-hit areas. These were generously donated by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the United Global Relief Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, and the Supreme Master, Ching Hai of the Guanyin Famen.

This community initiative not only addresses the immediate needs of the families but is also part of the important basis for sustainable recovery. The families who received solar lamps and tents are not only recipients of practical assistance but also beneficiaries of a broader vision for community development. The tents provide critically needed and urgent shelter. Tents are absolutely vital for the harsh weather conditions of the mountains, and winter is approaching.

HAF's initiative exemplifies the transformative power of community-driven interventions that address immediate needs while laying the foundation for sustainable development. The importance of helping Moroccan families after the earthquake goes beyond immediate relief. It’s a commitment to contributing to the long-term well-being of Moroccan people.

The commitment to distribute over 4000 lamps, in partnership with Amazon Disaster Relief and MPOWERD, is a promise of enduring support, emphasizing that the journey toward recovery is a continuous, well-lit path towards resilience and prosperity.
