Candelaria is one of the women who is involved in the organic gardening project in Chumanzana. She and her two daughters, Josefa and Maria, are happy to be a part of the group because they are learning so much. Josefa and Maria have had the opportunity to participate in the workshop at IMAP. They are using what they have learned in their own garden and are leading workshops for the rest of the women in the group.
Candelaria said that she is happy to start her seedlings in her garden. Her garden will provide food for her family and to sell to buy sugar, soap, salt, and other things for the kitchen. Before she did not know that you could have a garden in a small piece of land. Now that she knows, she feels very eager to plant different kinds of vegetables. She has planted beets, cilantro, lettuce, radishes, onions, small squash -a little bit of everything.
She thanks those who are helping them learn more about planting and how to grow different kinds of vegetables. She is very happy to be involved in the group and she is not afraid to participate in groups anymore. She used to think she could not do the things the group was doing, so was afraid to join. Participating has changed her mind and now she has learned things that as she can use as she struggles with her family to improve their lives. She now is waiting for the rain to make the gardening easier.
