Promote Clean Water & WaSH to Girls in Nepal

COVID-19 has halted a lot, more than I think many of us could ever imagine, and potentially more than we will ever truly know. In Nepal, we started the year off with a bang. Ready to support three schools with getting access to safe and sustainable drinking water. With fundraising initatives and planns being drawn up we were hopeful to be able to contribute to SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation. But schools soon closed down, and individual donations dropped significantly. This all during the time when the communities need us the most. Never before have the evidence been so clear that clean water and sanitation save lives as well as livelihoods. But to make this happen we need you, our loyal supporters. By raising funds to provide clean water at 3 schools we will reach over 1000 people, covering over 3 separate communities.

To stop the spead of COVID-19, clean hands is one of the key ways to contian the virus. However, 52% of Nepals population are still living without clean water and soap in their homes, increasing the risk of spreading the virus. This is a total of 3,5 million people without access to clean water. In addition, the nation is suffering from poor health monitoring processes; movement of migrant workers; insufficient equipment to deal with a global health crisis. Thus, to tackle the root causes and ensure preparedness for the future, providing access to water at small communities will have a direct impact, and reach those in need. 

By providing a safe water supply at schools, it will not only ensure that the pupils who attend school remain safe and healthy, but will further encourage families to send their students to school. This is essential at a time where many families feel that they want to keep their children close to limit interactions with people, but also utilise them as labour at a time of struggle.

However, it is time to action change. It is time for us all to pull together and ensure that each child can safely attend school. Not only to manage COVID-19 and its side effects, but to encourage school attendance and break the cycle of poverty.

Dear Supporters,

This is a new project and we are funding 1031 children attending 3 schools in Gulmi and supporting 3 schools without water to purchase and install solar-powered pumps bringing clean, affordable and sustainable water supply. Additionally we will install hygiene and sanitation infrastructure designed to meet the needs of girls, boys and children with disabilities.  

This will directly contribute to the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals( UN SDG’s) 3 Good Health and Well-being, UN SDG 4 Quality Education and UN SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation.

The year started off well and we were gaining some momentum in reaching our funding targets but COVID-19  has delayed some of the progress we’ve made. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in Nepal the project start date has been pushed to January 2021 and we remain optimistic and fulfilling the needs of this community. To date with your generous donations we have raised $511 but still have a way to go to reach our targets and give the community in Nepal the basic right to access clean water and have a quality education.
