Improve education quality at 4 schools in Uganda

Our project to improve the quality of education at four schools in Uganda was able to start on schedule in October 2024 thanks to everyone involved. The four project schools (Alangi, Oderokech, Amele and Amoni elementary school) are located in the Otuke district in northern Uganda, a rural region that is severely affected by financial poverty and a lack of infrastructure. Our local partner organization is “Link to Progress” (LTP), with whom we have been successfully implementing projects in Uganda for several years.

Construction work

• The foundations for the latrines at two schools (Amele and Oderokech schools) have been dug.
• The wells at two schools (Alangi and Oderokech school), where access to clean drinking water had previously been lacking, were also successfully renewed and drilled.
• Water quality tests have also already been carried out. Access to clean drinking water benefits both the students and the people in the surrounding school community who use the wells as a source of water.

Promoting sustainable school structures

• The School Management Committee (SMC) has already met and held an election for the leadership of the Water Source Committee.The committee is now made up of half male and half female members and consists of parents from the school community as well as members of the SMC.
• The first workshops of this committee have already been conducted by LTP and knowledge about hygiene practices and the maintenance of sanitary facilities has been imparted.
• The first workshops on mental health for students, parents and teachers have also taken place. Further workshops will be held in March.
