Much progress in the construction work and new supportive groups formed - exciting news for you from our project at 4 schools in Uganda!
Construction work
Considerable progress has been achieved in the building activities at the 4 schools in Uganda. The foundations of the new classrooms, sanitary facilities and menstruation hygiene rooms are now completed. The construction of incinerators for the hygienic disposal of menstrual products at the Alangi elementary school is finished. In the Amele elementary school, the facility is being constructed while the facilities at the two remaining schools will be finished in the next few weeks. Those steps are continuously accompanied by representants of the communities which strengthens the local anchoring of the project.
The Alangi- and Oderokech elementary schools received new energy efficient ovens, which were installed with the active support of parents of the students. Meals can now be prepared on a regular basis for the students at the schools.
Sustainable structures at school
Our local partner organization “Link to Progress” (LTP) organized mobilization meetings at all 4 schools during which water committees were founded. At 3 schools, nine local saving groups were initiated. These groups offer people without access to banks the possibility to save money for expenses like school fees or the cost of reparations at the schools which the community bears jointly.
