Resilience for 1000Left-behind kids in Rural China

We are so grateful to share what an amazing experience of our Summer camps is in this July!! After visit of each school, we finally made a cooperation with 7 schools to operate Grow program for them. So we were going to carry out the Summer Camp in 7 schools. This is a huge challenge to us. We never been to do the camps over 2 schools at the same time. What’s worse! Just one day before we all prepared and depart to the schools, we got some Covid-19 cases in Guangzhou. Everyone was so panic because most of our volunteers are from Guangzhou. The local governments and schools who are even more sensitive and scared of us. So every school principal called me to cancel or delay the camp. I had to say, at some moment, I was desperate and ready to cancel it. “Just wait for one more moment! We can do all the process to make we are healthy and safe!”after so many conversations like this we finally got the permission that we can still do it even it already postponed for two days because we need to do the Covid-19 test twice in three days. All green negative result and then we finally opened the Summer Camp! Unfortunately we still have one school got canceled. But we have to say we won’t complain anything. Everything is the best plan! 

So during 10^thto 22rd in July, we organized 100 volunteers to serve 275 students in 6 primary schools in Huaiji County. On the first day of Camp, we visited the left-behind kids at hom. When we get to know a child from the origin family, we can better implement services and provide help. From the home visits, we know that 70 percent of students' parents work outside the home, and most students can only see their parents on one or two big holidays each year.

In this Summer Camp, we has prepared a total of 13 resilience courses. According to the age characteristics of students, a large number of games and interactive links are designed to impart knowledge and values to students, to help students establish optimism, self-confidence, self-estee.

At the same time, the students also can participate in dance class and basketball class and experienced the strength of perseverance and teamwork in practice. Although there were only 13 classes of interest, every female student learned at least 2 dances, performed well in the graduation ceremony, and left a deep impression on the audience. And every male student learned basketball skills, completed a wonderful basketball competition.
