Mrembo curriculum(A girls sexual health reproductive tool kit) has been hitting the communities for over 3 years and after getting views from the community, participants, coaches and teachers, it was high time for the curriculum to be taken to the garage for some alignment, adjustments and injection of some new fresh ideas and activities on the curriculum to catch up with the emerging trend, providing sessions that are relevant to what the youths are facing in their everyday lives. The effort of revising Mrembo curriculum was done through generous support from Women Win www.womenwin.org and individual donations through Global Giving.Views from various attendees: coaches, volunteers, staff and other invited guests from various institutions also played a major role in the review."We are so greatful that now we have a manual that addreses current issues affecting the girls of today."Said,Doreen one of the Mrembo participant who was present at the workshop.
Story Telling Workshop
20 volunteer coaches drawn from different VAP programs attended a one day of storytelling workshop where they were all trained on how to collect stories from the program participants and the community at large and how these stories are analyzed and used to shape the organization and serve the needs of the community. Volunteers were taught about the importance of conducting monitoring and evaluation and why it’s very vital as part and parcel of any particular program not only to the donors but to the program implementers and program participants. Also in attendance were representatives from other like-minded organizations who expressed interest in networking and learning with VAP.VAP intends to continue with collection of stories from program participants and community to back up its ‘Scorecard’a template that allows VAP staff to enter data offline and upload into a scoreboard which is a basic M&E that captures info including attendance, demographic data and pre/post surveys.
