Last month I was in Nepal and one of the reasons was to show the practical difference that your donations make.
I first visited Kalidevi School in March 2024, when I ceremoniously laid the first brick for a new block of toilets. Now I was lucky enough to go back to officially open the new block!
Clean toilets and taps make a huge difference to children attending rural schools - especially girls. So we know that this block will have a really high impact on attendance rates in the weeks, months and years to come.
The official opening of the new toilets was cause for celebration! We were treated to some wonderful dancing whilst the children sheltered under colourful umbrellas from the hot sun. Once again I was asked to make a speech, and took the opportunity to encourage the girls to stay in school, and thank the parents for encouraging them in their education.
We work with rural schools in trafficking-prone areas because we know that children who attend school regularly are far less likely to be trafficked. We support schools in a range of ways that are proven to improve attendance – such as engaging teaching methods, good classroom resources and clean water and toilets.
