Infertility affects an estimated 1 in 6 couples worldwide, with stigma and emotional stress often more severe in Nigeria where childbearing is highly valued. Many couples cannot afford proper counseling or are unaware of safe options. This project will provide counseling services for 5,000 couples, reducing anxiety, guiding treatment choices, and restoring hope. Immediate support is needed as many couples face isolation, depression, and financial strain without access to professional care.
Infertility in Nigeria carries heavy stigma, leaving many couples isolated and vulnerable to depression, domestic strain, and financial hardship. While medical treatment is expensive and limited, counseling services are scarce. Without support, couples may turn to unsafe practices or face marital breakdown. The lack of affordable, accessible, and professional counseling creates a gap that leaves thousands struggling in silence with little or no guidance.
This project will provide structured counseling sessions to 5,000 couples, offering emotional support, guidance on safe medical options, and stress management. It will also organize group sessions to reduce isolation and stigma. Trained counselors will deliver sessions both in-person and virtually, making services available to those in rural and urban areas. By connecting couples with proper information and care, the project reduces harm and creates safer pathways for families.
Couples who receive counseling are more likely to manage stress, make informed health choices, and maintain stronger family bonds. Over time, community awareness will shift, reducing stigma associated with infertility. With more trained counselors, sustainable support systems will remain in place, benefiting future couples who face the same challenge. This project will help build a healthier and more supportive environment for families in Nigeria.
