The Tuticorin Isha Vidhya senior school students went on a field trip to study the Tuticorin Port Trust. Tuticorin Port is an important commercial port in South India. Tuticorin port is becoming a gateway for South India to the US, Europe and the Mediterranean following direct sailings to these regions. Exports from the port are 25% to Europe, 20% to the USA, 20% to the East Asia including China, 15% to Colombo, 10% to West Asia, and the rest to the Mediterranean.
The students first visited the Port Trust’s information center, where they saw miniature of the harbor and videos of development of the port. Then they inspected different types of vessels, which are used to carry merchandise like motorbikes, fertilizers, wood, etc. They saw the massive cranes and the other machines used in the port, and were amazed at the sight.
The students got the chance to get into a Philippines vessel that was carrying wood logs. The students thanked the Captain of the ship for the permission.
For a first time visit to a port, the trip was a delight for the students. They thoroughly enjoyed learning the port operational details, ship internals, and exploring potential career possibilities!
Our schools regularly take senior grade students on such field trips to make them explore career options.
We thank you for your continuous engagement with Isha Vidhya in helping India rural children shaping their future!
Best Regards.
