Keerthana is from a very poor family. From her childhood, she showed a lot of interest in studies. But her parents could not afford a quality education for her. The family was struggling even for good food, as Keerthana’s father is a daily wager. They used to eat only twice a day.
Keerthana’s parents came to know about Isha Vidhya. They also came to know about the scholarships being offered for children from underprivileged families. Keerthana wrote the entrance exam at Isha Vidhya, passed the exam, and got selected to get education in Isha Vidhya. She showed a lot of interest in studies. Beside studies, she was also interested of being a good orator. Isha Vidhya found her interest and curiosity, and offered her full scholarship along with free transport and noon-meal. Now she has become very interested in her academics. She is always very active during the classes.
Keerthana got recognition certificates as “Student of the Week” three times so far. She got those certificates for being perfect in work completion, active participation in all activities, and for her performance in studies. She is also a member of a Science Club in our school. In the Life Skill workshops that focus on robotics and communication, she is an active member!
Keerthana’s parents are short of words on how they feel about Keerthana’s education now. In the recent Parent-Teachers meeting, her parents were in tears when we were reporting on her development. They said that they were so proud to see her daughter in such a standing. They also said that being a daily wager, they can’t even imagine thinking of such quality education as imparted to Keerthana. They added that everything has been possible because of the scholarship provided by Isha Vidhya.
Isha Vidhya too, is very proud of Keerthana. We take all steps to ensure that she will succeed in everything that she takes up, and also score well in her board exams.
Isha Vidhya helps several such rural Indian underprivileged children discover their potential, and shine! Isha Vidhya is currently taking part in the International Women’s Day campaign, in which if it wins, it will have a chance to be one of the NGOs that will share the funds raised in the Globalgiving Girl Fund, for an year! This will help Isha Vidhya in providing additional education, noon meal, and transportation sponsorships for its girl students! We request you to donate as well as spread the word far and wide through email, Whatsapp, and all your social networks, as the criteria to win the competition is maximum number of unique donors.
