It happens often that when a student is
at the school, they realize that they have
not brought the pen, or the pencil, or
they ran out of pages in their notebook.
As the Isha Vidhya schools are located in
rural areas, there might not be nearby
shops where they can go buy these items.
Or they might not have the money in their
hands to buy the item.
Isha Vidhya Erode school came up with a
concept called “The Honesty Shop”. The
school would have the stationery items
with the prices marked on them. There
is also a box kept along with the items in
which the students can put the money
for the cost of that item. If they don’t
have the money at that time, they will
put it a day or two.
This method worked really well, and the
honesty of the children was forthcoming,
with the amount collected for all the
items without fail! Thus came by the
the term “The Honesty Shop”, and it is
being adopted in other Isha Vidhya schools
too!
It was heartwarming to know that an
Isha Vidhya student Janarthan of the Erode
school who completed the 12th grade in 2018
came back to the school to gift items to
the school’s honesty shop!
“The Honesty shop” not only helps the
students in times of need, but also
encourages the habit of paying for the items
that they bought when no one is accounting
for it! This inculcates honesty in the students
right from the early age, which builds their
character as adults!
We thank you for all you have done for Isha
Vidhya, and look forward for your continued
support!
Thanks & Best Regards.
