The water quality in the Dharmapuri area in Tamilnadu
is of concern because of chemical levels in the ground
water. It is important for the residents to always test the
chemical levels in the water before usage.
Dharmapuri Isha Vidhya school has always been very
active in educating the students as well as the general
public (through campaigns) about the importance of
measuring chemical levels. About an year back, an NGO
organisation from Bengaluru volunteered to come to
Dharmapuri school and teach children about what flouride
level is and how to measure it.
On similar lines, as part of the regular ‘Tinkering Life Skills’
class conducted on Saturdays with the guidance of our
volunteers Atul and Shalini from London as part of their
‘Timeless Life Skills’ program, Isha Vidhya Dharmapuri
school students conducted “Residual Chloride” test using
the JAL-TARA water testing kit sponsored by Atul and
Shalini. The students learned about residual chloride and
finding chloride and its levels in the water bodies. They
were able to find the chloride levels in the drinking water
and water outlets.
Tests like these are an important safeguard against the risk
of microbial contamination. It’s great that students are
educated about these from the early stages of life.
