Nativity certificate is a government document
that is issued by the State Governments of India
to certify that the individual has been residing
in a particular location for five or more years.
This certificate is issued in every state in
India and is used to get admission in schools and
for employment purposes. The certificate is issued
by a Special Tahsildar. To create an awareness about
Native Certificate among our students, 8th grade
Tamil teacher Kothai at the Isha Vidhya Dharmapuri
school planned an activity about applying for the
native certificate.
The school’s Principal acted as the Tahsildar.
Students filed their applications for getting native
certificates. Through this activity, students came
to know the procedure of filing the Native Certificate
form. They also learnt where to submit it. Since most
of the children were not aware of it, the activity
helped the children a lot in understanding the process.
It developed their skills of filling in the form and
talking to the officials to submit the application.
Activities like these enrich the students’ learning of
social skills and community processes. Isha Vidhya takes
care that students learn not just the academics but also
the required life skills to live well in the community.
