Learning multiplication could be a tricky concept
for children to grasp.
Dharmapuri Isha Vidhya Mathematics teacher Rohini
planned an interesting activity to teach multiplication
to 4th grade students. Students were given flashcards,
symbols, and place value cards. Students were divided
into groups and instructed to arrange the place value cards
and asked to choose the number (multiplicand & multiplier)
on their own. They were asked to do the calculation and
find the answers. By this activity, students learnt how to
arrange numbers in the correct place values. The students
showed much more interest in the activity when compared
with learning the same concept in a regular class.
We are attaching a few pictures of the activity for your
attention. We hope that you appreciate the alternate
methods that we employ to make education more
interesting.
