Dear Patrons,
Encouraging and kindling the students' interest in reading is an important part of educating the rural child, as many
of them are first-generation school goers.
Recently, Ms. Sakaya Priya, a teacher at the Isha Vidhya Tuticorin School brought a bag to the class. Looking at the bag, students were all eager to know what's inside it! On opening the bag, they saw that it was full of small pouches and each pouch contained colourful books! Ms. Priya instructed the students to take the books and read during their free time.
A 3rd standard student in the class of Ms. Priya, was a self-confessed non-reader. She avoided reading books. This had a not-so-good effect on her performance at school. Normally she didn't have any interest in reading books but when she saw these colourful books she couldn't resist them.
The student shares: "I didn't like reading books. But, as soon as I saw the colorful books, I started reading them during my leisure time and loved to answer questions asked by the teacher about the stories in the books!"
Ms. Priya's effort to get her students reading was a success in no time. Such simple thoughtful ideas make a key
difference in imparting education to Isha Vidhya students.
Isha Vidhya participates in December Campaign
It's December, and we can't believe that 2015 just zoomed by. It's true that when we are doing what we love, time
just flies by!
It's also that time of the year, when we all feel thankful for all that's given to us, and share whatever we can with the
less fortunate around us in ways that we can.
We are glad to share that Isha Vidhya has entered the Global Giving's December 2015 campaign to raise funds for
replacing the laptops of the Isha Vidhya academic co-ordinators.
Here's a sharing of our Isha Vidhya academic co-ordinator Gopinath in their own words about their work:
"Isha Vidhya works with our matriculation schools as well as with the Government schools in Tamil Nadu. Isha Vidhya
schools have a content team that is pedantically and meticulously working to prepare the content that's student
friendly and teacher friendly. The content team in Isha Vidhya ought to build a content that is catering to the different
needs of children, for instance some children are good at listening, some at reading, some at writing – said that no
student left behind, so everyone is threaded in. By the same token, in government schools, Isha Education is working
with the pupils having problem with learning – therefore, Isha is crafting a different content according to the pupils’
ability. The credibility of content team in Isha Vidhya is commendable and majority of the content work done in Isha is
by means of laptop. Adding to the above said facts, individual kids marks are collected through the assessment and
analysed for the future intervention – child development and learning.
Academically, children are into different phase that can be mapped to the implicit laptop usage. Assessment –
worksheet preparation via laptop, data collection, maintaining the data register, analysing the collected data,
necessary intervention for the particular kid. For children, content prepared would be working with the concepts,
thereby the cognitive usage is encouraged, engaged with higher creative ability and developing towards the higher level.
It is necessarily a tool that has led to the positive difference in Isha Vidhya academics."
As you can see, laptop is a very critical part of the day-to-day work of an Isha Vidhya academic co-ordinator.
The need:
30 laptops that the various co-ordinators are using are in bad shape, and need to be replaced by the end of
this year, whose total cost approximately is around $12,340.
Impact of your donation:
We encourage you to come forward and donate as much as possible such that we reach the goal of replacing the
laptops by this year end, which will make a significant difference in the lives and education of over 6,400 Isha
Vidhya students and over 34,000 govt. school students.
