Dharmapuri School Social Science teacher planned
a field visit to the local Panchayat Office after
teaching the social science lesson 'Local Self
Goverrnment' for the 5th and the 6th standards.
The local Panchayat office is located at a
distance of about 1 km at Samichettipatty,
which the teachers and students decided to cover
on foot.
Students observed objects in Panchayat Head's
office including local map. Panchayat president
Mr. S. G. Munusamy introduced himself. He explained
about the structure of panchayat, their activities
and the role of panchayat in public welfare.
Students asked many questions like the borders of
the panchayat, income of panchayat, village council
meet, road facilities (panchayat road, union road),
plans and schemes done in the last 5 years. They
also wanted to know about the process of approaching
the panchayat for needs of people, small scale
industries supported by panchayat and more.
Mr. Munusamy patiently answered all the queries of
the students in detail.

approach the panchayat office for needs of people".

“Whatever I am explaining in the class, students needs
practical approach, this field trip helped them to
learn many concepts apart from their book. Along with
the students I also learned about the proper structure
of Panchayat office and their revenue. When I taught
about the maps, Like a world map and India map, there
is a separate map for each panchayat and panchayat
union etc., when they saw a panchayat map in the office,
Students felt happy in knowing “

This field trip helped the students learn about the
Panchayat, its structure, its juristriction, and its
working. It was a great exposure for the students of
Isha Vidhya!
