Gift an education...Make a life !

International Women's Day was celebrated on March 9th at the Cuddalore
school. The program started with Gayathri (8th Std0 sharing about the
objective of celebrating the Women's Day and Nithish and Amoga of 7th
grade spoke about women's empowerment.

A debate was conducted where one team spoke about the freedom
achieved by women in both personal and professional space while the
other team hotly contested it. The final verdict, after hearing all the
arguments, was that condition of women is improving but we have a
long way to go.

The day ended with students becoming more aware that women should be
respected and not to be discriminated against.

Sharing from Nithish, 7th grade:

"I am very happy to speak about the importance of women on women's day.
I respect women because of my mother.  My mother has given us good
education. She wants us to come up in life that is her only aim. They are
so many mothers like her in our society.  So my mother's life has made
me to give respect to women. Women are the pillars of the society. I have
made a vow that i will always respect women and work for the equal rights
for them."

Sharing from Amoga, 7th grade:

"I am very happy to get an opportunity speak on the women's day. My
mother is an example for will power. My father died in road accident even
though my mother is physical challenged she works in a Ankanvadi and
takes care of 3 children. Her only aim is to give good education to us and
because of her effort only i studying in Isha vidhya and getting scholarship.
I am also proud to be born as a woman. Women has more will power then
man even if my father were alive he would not have looked after as like her.
Women are the embodiment of sacrifice but i am sad they are not given
equal rights like men. My only aim is to study well and come out in life
and work for the emancipation of women."

Sharing from Tamilmozhi, teacher:

I was really fortunate to be given the responsibility of organizing
international women's day in our school even though i had short
period of time. I was able to organize a debate and speech by our
children. I was very happy when Nithish spoke about the importance
of the women in our society. I also agree with the view of some
students that freedom for women still remains a distance dream.
I am proud to be born as a woman and from my experience
i feel there is a trend of treating the women better. Women have
started succeeding by contributing to the society including working
in the Indian armed forces."

So, patrons, you can see how the Isha Vidhya students are intending to
give equal importance and respect to women, and also work for women
development in their life!  It's great to know about this, and Isha Vidhya's
effort to create awareness about this important topic!
