Tuticorin Isha Vidhya school teachers came up with
"Shapes Theme Day" to teach kintergarden students
about the shapes.
The teachers asked the students to get few sweets of
different shapes. Crowns, garlands, rings, bangles
were made out of chart paper and crayons, which the
students were gifted to wear. The teachers also created
beautiful rangoli of different shapes. The students identified
the shape of the sweets that were shown to them. Shapes
of all sizes, strewn around the room reinforced the learning.
At end of the day, students became quite familiar with the shapes.
Student Jayasurya of lower kintergarden B
section shares:
The day before the "Shapes Day", our teacher informed us
about the shapes day, and asked us to bring sweets and
biscuits in different shapes. We brought the sweets and
biscuits from the shop. I bought samosa because it is of
triangle shape. Our teacher arranged the laddus in a plate
and samosas were in another plate. Sugar biscuits were
in rectangle shape so it is arranged in another plate. On
the blackboard teacher drew a robot. Its head was in square
shape. Nose was in heart shape. Ear-diamond, hands and
legs-rectangle and eyes was in circle shape. We eagerly
waited to taste the sweets. The teachers from other classes
came to our class and asked some questions related to
shapes. She took biscuit and showed to me and she asked
me what is the shape of this biscuit? I answered “rectangle”
and everyone clapped for me. I felt happy. After the lunch
period teacher distributed sweets to us. We ate it very
happily."
